Role Summary:

  • A key aspect of your role will be integrating new product processes and equipment into manufacturing operations.
  • Collaborating closely with R&D teams, you will define processes that enable the efficient and high-quality production of new product designs, prioritizing safety, cost-effectiveness, and compliance with ConvaTec policies, local regulations, and industry standards.
  • You will coordinate efforts with engineers, project managers, and essential stakeholders across operational networks, ensuring seamless project planning, execution, and progress tracking.
  • From the early development phases, you will focus on designing equipment and processes that enhance long-term production efficiency, product profitability, and reduce the need for future lifecycle investments, all while accelerating time-to-market.
  • Transparency and accountability will be central to your approach, as you will be responsible for comprehensive project reporting, covering progress updates, financial insights, and key action points, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and that products and processes meet the highest quality standards and customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with R&D teams to conduct process analysis and experimental trials, assisting AO leads in engineering studies, proof-of-concept (POP) tests, and material qualification activities. This includes both internal evaluations and vendor collaborations, utilizing structured methodologies and statistical tools such as process mapping, risk assessments (FMEA, Ishikawa diagrams), flow charts, and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Provide expertise in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and Design for Automation (DFA) to support R&D and process development teams throughout the entire product design lifecycle.
  • Assess materials, processes, and testing requirements for new products to ensure a seamless transition from design to full-scale manufacturing.
  • Take the lead in diagnosing and resolving technical issues related to equipment, applying Six Sigma principles to enhance efficiency and quality.
  • Serve as a technical resource, stepping in for lead engineers when necessary.
  • Leverage deep process knowledge to contribute to process FMEAs, establish appropriate tolerances, and develop effective sampling strategies.
  • Assist automation project managers in defining User Requirement Specifications (URS) for new equipment.
  • Demonstrate expertise in validation procedures by authoring validation protocols and reports, including URS, FAT, SAT, IQ, ES, OQ, and PQ.
  • Oversee validation activities, support production ramp-ups, and ensure smooth process implementation.
  • Work closely with vendors during equipment development, attending design reviews and critically evaluating technology recommendations to ensure equipment is optimized for high-quality and efficient production at the designated manufacturing site.
  • Maintain and update technical documentation throughout the project’s lifecycle.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer by ensuring comprehensive handovers of product and process expertise to local engineering and manufacturing teams, completing all required handover documentation for a seamless transition to business-as-usual operations.

Skills & Experience:

  • Strong command of the English language, with proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Proven experience collaborating with R&D teams to develop and implement automated manufacturing solutions for new products.
  • 1–2 years of hands-on experience in a process engineering or similar technical role.
  • Solid background in manufacturing, operations, or engineering, with expertise in installing and validating new production equipment.
  • Practical knowledge in deploying AGVs, material handling systems, and automated packaging solutions across primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging stages.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept and justification through key milestones such as URS, RFP, POP, FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ, and PQ, ensuring a smooth transition to full-scale production.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred or a willingness to work towards obtaining it.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering or a scientific subject.
  • Design control, statistical techniques, and validation standards
  • Process Excellence Green or Black Belt would be an advantage.
  • LEAN methodologies training/qualification is an advantage.
